Ultimate Tips for visiting Széchenyi Baths: 

1. The large swimming pool in the middle outside requires a swimming cap. If try to swim without one, staff will make you get out. 
2. There’s a bar outside (card only) however it’s strictly forbidden to take drinks into the water or even next to the water. This is frustrating in winter as its freezing cold. 
3. There’s a spa party on Saturday nights… they break their own rules about drinks in the water. I haven’t been to this event, however the reviews are incredibly bad – Check them out here and make up your own mind. 
4. Take the private cabin, it’s a changing room/locker to keep all your stuff in safely. If you’re in a couple, one of you should get the private cabin, the other a standard changing room. You can still share the cabin, however you’ll also be able to use the outside lockers. 
5. It’s open all year round, however we’ve found March to be a great time to go. It’s still winter, however it’s not as busy and usually sunny.

1. The outdoor wave pool is awesome but sadly only open during the summer months. In the winter the pool is drained. The thermal pool outside is open all year round. 

2. There’s a bar outside, but similar to Széchenyi, it’s not allowed to take drinks into the water or near the water. It’s also only open in the summer. 

3. Gellért Baths also host their own spa parties on selected dates, but reviews are mixed. Check them out here to decide for yourself. 

4. Although Gellért is really nice, its outside area doesn’t compete with Széchenyi. It’s inside area however is arguably better so if the weather is really bad, Gellért is a better option. 

5. Again with the stupid swimming caps for the main pool… 

6. The bath is open throughout the year. April and May offer pleasant weather and fewer crowds, however the wave pool isn’t open until the summer. It’s great all year round however and one of the best thermal baths in Budapest.

4. There always seems to be at least one pool closed. We had the outside hot tub closed which was a shame. If you get really unlucky, one of the main ones could be. 

5. There’s saunas & steam rooms and you can also book massages. 

6. Bring some snacks, drinks and a book if you plan to spend the whole day.

5. Rudas isn’t always Coed, meaning during the week it’s men only or woman only. Weekends are mixed. Check beforehand. 

6. Rudas is open all year round, but the quieter months of April and October are especially enjoyable.

1. Taxis don’t go direct to the baths as the island is closed to cars. You have 3 options, rent a scooter or bike (what we chose) walk or take a paid tuk tuk tricycle. 

2. Most of the facilities are closed in the winter. A few indoor pools are open, along with one outdoor thermal pool (warm, not hot) 

3. In the summer the waterpark is open along with lots of other facilities. It felt dead in the winter but the summer it’s great! 

4. It’s got a wave pool which is open in the summer only 

5. It’s very cheap and very quiet compared to the 3 spas above.

4. The thermal pool isn’t very hot, just warm. Probably recommend a couple hours here at the most.
